But don't fret, the #BeautyCareCrew is here with a few tips and tricks and our favorite winter go-to's. First, the most obvious and most important is to moisturize! Gloves will help to block out wind that can chap hands and they will also keep you warm! Continue this indoors and wear rubber gloves when your wash dishes or use chemicals. Exfoliate! If you're already seeing signs of dry cracked hands and weathered skin, then it's time for an exfoliant. Not only do exfoliants remove dead skin, but they also prep your skin for moisturizers and help drive them deeper into your skin. #BeautyCareCrew member Jennifer loves the Bonblissity Mini-Me Pack: Sweet+Single Candy Scrub . COVID-19 in Relation to Hair loss
If I have learned anything about the Coronavirus, it's to expect the unexpected. While the list of COVID-19 symptoms from the CDC is a mile long, hair loss is not included and we have received an increase in calls regarding it. One of our Customer Service Agents said she had spoken to a woman who she and her mom both had COVID-19 over a month ago and were now losing their hair in clumps! We suggested first to try and not stress about it, it was temporary and the stress does make it worse. We reassured her that we had heard this from many other customers who did find a benefit to using a follicle stimulator! We have many products to help. Most are noticing 2-3 months after catching the virus that they have a noticeable increase in hair shedding. This hair shedding can last for 6-9 months before it stops. But don't fret, doctors say that this specific form of hair loss is reversible! This reversible hair loss condition is called Telogen Effluvium. This occurs when more hairs than normal enter the shedding, or Telogen, phase of hair growth. A high fever, stress, or emotional distress can force more hair into this shedding phase. While people typically lose 100 hairs per day, Telogen Effluvium can cause 300 strands to fall out every day! A few good ways to kick start your hair to enter its growth phase again is to make sure that you are consuming a diet that supports hair health and growth, which means a balanced diet that includes protein, vitamin D, and iron. Hair growth supplements and hair follicle stimulating sprays will aid in speeding this up as well. It has also been suggested to reevaluate the current hair products you are using. Take out anything with harsh preservatives and switch to something more organic to avoid further clogging your follicles. Also adding products specifically for adding thickness will help with the transition while your hair is recovering. So don't stress, Beauty Care Choices has a product or two that will help get you through, it may just take a little time and patience to see the results. It will grow back!

Reasons why you should invest in your skin care
Our skin is radiant, so why not take care of it? Neglecting to take care of our skin will cause it to suffer in the next 10, 15, or even 20 years! Maintaining our skin's natural beauty is much easier to prevent damage than to treat already occurring damage. It's a well-known fact that you feel better when you look better, and having a daily skincare routine helps you look your best and put your best foot forward! The largest organ in your body is your skin, and just like the rest of your body, it requires its own array of products to keep it healthy and glowing. But why should you invest in your skincare? Why is it so important? Your skin is what protects your body against dehydration and environmental aggressors and is essential to your general health. By taking care of your skin, it can help take care of you so it is worth the time and energy on a daily basis! Using good quality products provides your skin with similar benefits that eating healthy food provides your body. Choosing the right products for your skin type provides an array of different benefits from even makeup application to eliminating skin concerns. Quality skincare protects your skin against environmental aggressors such as pollution, and harmful UV and UVB rays that can cause premature aging. By including in your skincare routine a good SPF you will help to block and protect your skin from damage. Dermalogica has a wide variety of different SPF creams and lotions to fit your specific skin type and skin needs. This will also help to prevent age spots that we typically see along the high points on our face that see the most sun. Eliminating skin concerns is high on my list for why I invest in my skincare . Anything from hyperpigmentation, dark spots, wrinkles, acne, and so many more concerns can be solved with the proper skincare. Feeding your skin with great skincare will help give you a smooth, and even makeup application as well. Moisturizers and skin serums provide hydration, so your makeup won't stick to your problem areas. Investing in your skincare can save you money in the long run. While higher-priced skincare may be hard to bite the bullet on, you need less of that product than the less expensive version. Quality skincare has a higher concentration of specific skin-loving ingredients, so you need less of the product to achieve beautiful results. If you don't want to deal with acne scars, deep wrinkles, skin discoloration, or other skin issues, a skincare routine now can prevent trips to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon in the future to address these issues. Poor quality products can cause multiple negative effects on your skin. From infection, allergic reaction, and ineffective results causing your skin to worsen, creating a domino effect of breakouts and clogged pores. Shop by your skin concern with Beauty Care Choices and invest in you!

Treating Your Scalp: More Than Just Haircare
Did you know that your scalp is skin? Seems silly to point out, I know, but sometimes we forget that and overcomplicate our hair care routine. Just like the skin on your face and body the scalp requires special care and attention. Your scalp can sometimes be the "window into your skin needs" and reveal important information about the rest of your skin. Basics The scalp is made up of five layers, two more than the skin on your body and face. Scalp skin is some of the thickest skin in the body and carries more blood than the rest of your skin and many oil-producing glands that help protect your hair. The scalp can have many of the same skin disorders as your face and body. The most common are scalp psoriasis, eczema, and occasionally acne. Why It Matters Your scalp health is directly related to the health of your hair. It's the soil to your plants, meaning a healthy scalp promotes healthy hair growth. Studies show your scalp ages faster by six times faster from over-exposure to direct environmental impacts, such as UVA and UVB rays and pollution. How to As with the skin on your face, it is important to start taking care of your scalp as soon as possible. After all, it is easier to prevent damage than to reverse it! Scalp care is often formulated to treat and prevent concerns like dryness, flaking, product buildup, thinning, and even hair loss. No matter the concern, Beauty Care Choices has solutions and options to help best suit your personal needs! Shop all skin solutions with Beauty Care Choices! Have a question? 8 Best Ingredients for Aging Skin
Taking care of your skin and knowing the ingredients that will help you achieve your goal is important. But what ingredients actually work? Each of these top anti-aging ingredients gives skin a youthful boost in slightly different ways. Each also has its different pros and occasionally cons, we have sought out and researched so you feel you are well prepared and knowledgeable on your product choices! 1. Vitamin C Not only will it help when you are sick, but vitamin c is also rich in antioxidants which help neutralize skin-damaging free radicals caused by environmental factors such as sun and pollution. This will also help with excess pigment (hyperpigmentation) in the skin, fading dark spots, and discoloration. And if that didn't sell you, it also helps to stimulate collagen production! 2. Collagen One of the most important proteins in your skin, and the foundation for keeping your skin strong and firm. As we age, our natural collagen production slows down. On top of that, all kinds of external factors (ahem sun) also contribute to collagen breakdown. While you would think collagen would be the obvious choice for anti-aging it's not quite that simple. Topically, it won't make a huge improvement. Collagen is a large molecule that can be tricky to penetrate as deeply into the skin as is needed. Ingestable forms of collagen are the way to go! 3. Hyaluronic Acid The cult favorite in the hydrating ingredient world, it acts like a sponge drawing water into the skin and trapping it. This acid not only moisturizes the skin but also plumps the skin filling in your fine lines and wrinkles. Apply this to slightly damp skin for it to work most effectively. 4. SPF I know, it's technically not an ingredient but if you're not using SPF religiously then there is no point in wasting money on other anti-aging ingredients. It is a known fact that sun exposure is one of the leading causes of all signs of aging, from dark spots to wrinkles and everything in between! A broad-spectrum SPF blocks both UVA and UVB rays can cause premature aging and burning. 5. Ceramides Ceramides are lipids that keep the skin's barrier strong and healthy sealing in moisture. In terms of anti-aging the more hydrated your skin is, the more youthful and full it will look. Typically ceramides are found in moisturizers and nightly treatments. Because they are great for helping keep irritants out, they are great for sensitive skin. 6. Glycolic And Lactic Acid Part of a group of fun acids known as alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), glycolic acid is known for having the smallest molecular size so it can go deeper into the skin. Like traditional AHA's this gently dissolves bonds between dead skin cells to improve your skin's overall health. But glycolic acid also has another great anti-aging benefit, it boosts collagen and elastin in the skin. Glycolic acid can be irritating for those with extremely sensitive skin or when used too frequently. Lactic acid, usually derived from milk is generally gentler and less irritating than glycolic acid. It is found in many at-home exfoliating products. Unlike many other exfoliators, lactic acid has been shown to increase the natural moisture factors in the skin. 7. Retinol Retinol AKA Vitamin A, is the most effective skin-transforming ingredient. Retinol works by increasing the rate at which your cells turn over, making it easier for new healthy cells to emerge. As great as it is, it can be very irritating to many and when overused can cause skin burning. 8. Jojoba Oil The best skincare oil in the bunch, Jojoba Oil is biomimetic, meaning it acts as the oil naturally found in the skin. It's non-comedogenic, so you won't need to worry about clogging pores while it moisturizes and soothes dry and irritated skin. Jojoba also contains vitamin E! What Does Sulfate-Free Mean to You?
What is a Sulfate? Sulfates are what make products like shampoo, and soap lather. If you look at the ingredients list on the shampoo, then sulfates will be listed as: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS; Sodium Laureth Sulfate or SLES;. Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate; Sodium Myreth Sulfate; TEA Laureth Sulfate. There is no current scientific evidence of any carcinogenic effects from sulfates. Sulfates may cause irritation for those with sensitive skin or skin conditions such as eczema or dandruff. They may also be in your conditioner, body wash, and even toothpaste. Sulfates do a really great job of cleaning your hair. The downside is that they can strip hair and scalp of natural oils. So, it's a trade-off. If you're prone to itchy flaky scalp or skin, have eczema, have chemically damaged or color-treated hair, then it's probably best to use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Shop Big Size Shampoos & Conditioner Sets If you have normal, healthy hair, then using a shampoo that contains sulfates is a matter of preference. If you just don't feel clean without lots of suds, then look for less irritating sulfates. The least irritating sulfate is Sodium Myreth Sulfate, followed by TEA Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Ammonia Laureth Sulfate is likely the most irritating of all the sulfates. Just be sure to condition your hair after shampooing it.

Protect Your Hair
Summer is officially here! We all know that our skin needs protection from the sun, but did you know that your hair does as well? UVA and UVB rays from the sun can cause hair color to fade out and cause your hair to dry out. The sun's strong rays can deplete the lipids from your hair. Lipids are an essential part of the hair shaft as they coat and protect hair and lock in hydration. When hair loses its natural lipids it also loses moisture. This leaves hair dry and brittle and in serious need of hydration. Fast Color Fade Out Whether your hair is color-treated or natural you will notice your hair slightly lightening up in the summer months. This is because the sun's rays combined with oxygen cause the melanin (natural pigment) in the hair to react and fade. To prevent this, apply a sun protection product that contains UV filters as your finishing product. Exposure to UV rays tends to make your hair brittle and prone to damage. Dehydrated Hair High temperatures can also cause damage to your hair and deplete your hair's natural moisture. Many are not aware that elements like saltwater, chlorine, and hair products can build up on the hair and scalp, which worsens the situation. Unless washed off, these can suffocate the hair and disrupt your hair's natural pH, causing your hair to dry out further. What should I look for in my hair care? Many hair care brands have integrated SPF into their hair care products. Look for products that have UVA and UVB filters, these will act as a shield over your hair. It is recommended to apply sun protection to your scalp as well to help prevent follicle damage. I personally use a translucent cosmetic powder to the hairline and part for added sun protection on top of any UVA and UVB filter finishing product. Shop all SPF!

Protect Your Skin
Summer is finally here! The sun is out and everyone wants to be outside enjoying the beautiful weather, but sometimes we forget our sun protection! Protecting your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays not only is good for the health of your skin but will also help prevent pre-mature aging on your skin. I'm sure you've been told that there are different types of sun protection, physical and chemical, but what is the difference between the two? Is one better than the other? Chemical Sunscreen. Chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin and then absorbs UV rays, converts the rays into heat, and releases them from the body. When would you choose chemical sunscreen? Chemical sunscreens are great for long relaxing beach days. This type of sunscreen is water-resistant and will withstand sweat as well. Chemical sunscreens also absorb into the skin quickly, but for those with sensitive skin and those who are worried about possible ill effects of chemical exposure, a physical sunblock may be a better option. The ingredients in chemical sunscreen include avobenzone, octinoxate, and oxybenzone. Chemical sunscreen can also be worn with other skincare products and is lightweight enough to wear with cosmetics. Physical Sunblock. Now that you're an expert on Chemical Sunscreens, what about Physical Sunblock? This is called a sunblock rather than sunscreen because sunblock reflects the sun's rays. So it creates a barrier between the skin and the sun's ultraviolet rays. Sunblock provides broad-spectrum sun protection from both UVA and UVB rays. This will protect skin immediately prior to application, is not as irritating for sensitive skin, and is less likely to clog pores for those with acne-prone skin. The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the main active ingredients in physical blocks. Shop all SPF! How should your sun protection be applied? To prevent sun damage, sunblock or sunscreen needs to be applied and reapplied correctly. Chemical sunscreen and physical sunblock have unique application methods that need to be followed. In most cases, you will find specific directions for proper application and reapplication, and you should always follow these instructions. Chemical Sunscreen Application & Reapplication In order to absorb into the skin and properly protect against the sun, chemical sunscreen needs to be applied about 15 to 20 minutes before exposure. While chemical sunscreen last longer, to ensure efficacy, you should still reapply frequently, every two to three hours. Physical Sunblock Application & Reapplication Immediately after sunblock application, your skin is protected from sun damage, so you can go outside right away. You need to apply enough product to ensure you have an even coat of protectant over the skin. People typically don't apply enough sunscreen. Every person is different, but about an ounce, or a shot glass full, of sunblock, should be adequate. Because physical sunblock is more likely to be wiped or sweated off, you'll need to apply this product more frequently. At the very least, reapply sunblock every two hours. There's no doubt that sunscreen is essential. Not only does SPF protect against the sun's harmful rays, but it's also one of the best antiaging products you can buy. However, when it comes to the question of whether physical or chemical formulas are better, the answer isn't quite as clear. So wear your sun protection, and keep your skin healthy with Beauty Care Choices!
